Cover Letter 

As we reached phase three of our class course we were prepared to start our own investigation about the roles language plays in our society and put into practice all our rhetorical skills acquired. We fist learned how to compose a strong introductory paragraph that would capture the readers attention and had a clear main idea. I learned that one of the qualities a great research paper consists of is locating and evaluating many applicable sources that will prove the main thesis statement of your paper. This was a challenge for me since it is was my first research paper and finding sources that proved what I sought to explain took a long tedious process. Once we had found at least 8 sources of different medias it was time to synthesize and integrate these citing into our writing.

In order to make our research paper further supporting we learned how to use rhetorical precís in our writing by finding out what was the authors main argument and which tools were used throughout the article. A big part of the research paper consisted of synthesizing, this meant we had to analyze and compare multiple sources and cross inspect how they all tied together to prove our research. I choose the subject of discriminatory attacks of violence towards Asian Americans and their history of racism due to political issues. The reason behind my research was influenced by the rise in random violent attacks throughout New York City, targeted specifically towards Asian Americans. This all occurred right after the worldwide Corona pandemic and tensions were high between China and America as to where the virus originated.

The combination of all of the skills I learned since the beginning of the semester up until the very end allowed me to feel more comfortable with my writing abilities and find better ways of getting my point across to the reader. Overall it was a wonderful experience to be able to share my writing with the rest of the class and observe how different styles of writing and views all joined together to make this english language workshop a success.
